The Union Sq. Community Coalition honored three “outstanding women” — in photo at left, from left to right, City Councilmember Margarita Lopez, Karen Shaw, executive director of the Union Sq. Partnership business improvement district, and Borough President C. Virginia Fields — last Wednesday at its meeting at New York University’s E. 14th St. Palladium residence. All three received a historic 1921 photograph of the square. In photo at right, Susan Kramer, co-chairperson of U.S.C.C., presented one of the photos to Shaw. Under Shaw, the Partnership launched the initiative to redesign the north end of Union Sq.; both Fields and Lopez have allocated funds for aspects of the project.
