Vincent Zito, known as Jimmy, one of the brothers associated in A. Zito & Sons bakery, which closed on Bleecker St. at the end of May, died in his sleep at home in Hollandale, Fla., on Aug. 1 at the age of 90.
He was injured in a fall in January and had circulatory problems, said his stepson, Dan Patrissy.
Born in the Village to immigrants from Sicily, he was one of five brothers who with their father, Anthony, ran the bakery that became a Village institution. In recent years, however, Jimmy became less active in the bakery and spent more time at his home in Florida. His wife, Talia, died in 1998.
In addition to his stepson, Dan Patrissy, another stepson, Michael Patrissy, survives. His brother, Julio Zito, who was active in the bakery until it closed, and his nephew, Julio’s son, Anthony, who managed the bakery, also survive, as well as another brother, Jack, of Baltimore.
Perazzo Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., was in charge of arrangements. The funeral was Aug. 5 at Our Lady of Pompeii and burial was in Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island.
