Cops arrested a suspect who they say assaulted a woman in an act of hate in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn resident Brianna Rodriguez, 21, was arrested on Aug. 17. She was charged with assault and assault as a hate crime.
According to police, just before 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 8, a 41-year-old woman got on a northbound Q train at the Newkirk Plaza subway station. As the woman sat down and started to talk on her cellphone, Rodriguez allegedly sat down next to her. Rodriguez then allegedly stood up and punched the victim several times in the face in an unprovoked attack.
When the victim asked why she was attacked, Rodriguez allegedly responded “I hate Mexicans.” The train pulled into the 7th Avenue subway station, where Rodriguez allegedly got off the train and went to parts unknown, but not before the victim took a photo of her on her cellphone. The victim stayed on the train and got off at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station.
The victim sustained bruising to her forehead and a laceration to her upper lip, but refused medical attention.
