A 45-year-old Citi Bike rider is fighting for his life after a collision with a driver in Murray Hill Sunday morning, law enforcement sources said.
The 22-year-old female driver was heading east on East 38th Street around 6 a.m. on July 18 when she struck the cyclist heading north on First Avenue, according to a Police Department spokesman.
First responders found the victim suffering a cardiac arrest and with wounds on his body at 6:20 a.m. and rushed him to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.
The driver stayed on the scene and cops took her into custody for suspected driving while intoxicated, according to the Department rep.
One passer-by posted photos from the cordoned-off street on Twitter showing pools of blood in front of the red Nissan Altima and a Citi Bike on the sidewalk nearby. The snapshots also show the vehicle’s damaged driver’s side wing mirror hanging down.
At this junction, there have been 17 crashes with 21 injuries since 2011, according to data collected by NYC Crash Mapper.
