Toddler dies after being struck by driver with pickup truck in Manhattan

A robbery suspect fleeing police crashed into another car in Queens on Thursday, July 7, 2016, police said. The woman driving the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NYPD.

A 3-year-old boy was killed after a driver struck him with his pickup truck in East Harlem on Monday morning, police reported.

Law enforcement sources said the toddler’s 25-year-old mother was pushing him in a stroller across the street at the corner of First Avenue at East 116th Street at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 when the vehicle, a blue Ford F-150, struck the stroller.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 59-year-old man, was turning the vehicle left when he hit the mother and son, authorities said. He stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene.

Paramedics rushed the toddler, identified by sources as 3-year-old Bertin de Jesus, to Metropolitan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His mother suffered minor physical injuries, police sources said.

Cops took the driver into custody, though charges against him are pending the results of the ongoing investigation, police said.
