RJ Barrett and Julius Randle Could Be Key for Knicks

While most analysts focus on Jalen Brunson as it pertains to the Knicks’ ability to stay alive in the playoffs, there are two other Knicks who deserve attention. RJ Barrett has stepped up in a big way for New York. His scoring is up in this series (22.8 points per game) vs. the first round against the Cleveland Cavaliers (17.4 PPG). In this series, he’s gone for 24+ points in four of the five games played against the Heat.

Much-maligned forward Julius Randle had a strong, efficient Game 5. In that contest, he shot 53.8% from the field, including going 4-7 from three-point range (57.1%). While his rebounds were down in Game 5, he’s pulled down at least nine boards in each of the other three games he’s played in. If Jalen Brunson continues to lead the way and the combo of Barrett/Randle have another strong game, there could be a Game 7 on the way at Madison Square Garden.

Does Golden State Have an Answer for Anthony Davis?

Anthony Davis has the ability to dominate in the paint, on the boards, and create mismatches against any team. His prowess as a rebounder has been on full display, as he’s pulled down 13+ rebounds three times. In each of Los Angeles’ three wins in this series, Davis has pulled down double-digit boards. On the scoring side of things, Davis is averaging 22.4 points per game. In his past three games, he’s put up 25, 23, and 23 points.

Under normal circumstances, Kevon Looney would be seen as the big with the best chance of cleaning the glass for Golden State. In a first round series against the Kings, he recorded double-digit rebounds in the last five games, including three games with 20+ boards. In this series, however, Looney has seen his minutes per game drop from 30.1 to 17.6. That’s subsequently led to to a drop from 15.1 rebounds per game against the Kings to 9.2 against the Lakers.
