Landon Collins is headed back to the Giants.

The free agent safety is signing with New York, reuniting the former member of the organization with his old team, which was first reported by Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. He is joining the Giants in London to be around the club during its Week 5 matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

The Giants are expected to use Collins in more of a linebacker position, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, which helps bolster the depleted position for them. Collins is signing with the practice squad, which means he can be elevated twice on game days before he’d need to be added to the 53-man roster.

Collins had originally been drafted by the Giants in 2015 and quickly found success in the NFL with New York. He was a First Team All-Pro and Pro Bowler his second season in the league and followed it up with two more Pro Bowl appearances.

He signed a six-year, $84 million contract with the Washington Commanders in 2019, which was a record at the time for a player at his position.

The success he had in New York never quite translated to the Nation’s Capital during his short time there, which was marred by injuries. Collins had been moved to a linebacker hybrid role in 2021, but the Commanders opted to release him during the offseason.

Working under defensive coordinator Wink Martindale could help give Collins the boost to regain the form he had during his first time around with the Giants. And the hybrid linebacker role could work for him in New York under Martindale.

The Giants already are filled out at the safety spot with Xavier McKinney and Julian Love there.

New York is headed to London for their Week 5 matchup with the Packers as part of an ongoing tradition for the NFL to host regular season games overseas.
