Could the stars be aligning for the Giants early in the new NFL season? For head coach Brian Daboll it’s not even a thought he’s attempting to entertain after New York’s surprising Week 1 victory.

Still, with the Carolina Panthers coming off a loss to start the year and the Dallas Cowboys — the Giants’ Week 3 opponent — losing their starting quarterback in Dak Prescott for a significant amount of time, it’s not hard to envision New York stringing a few wins together early. But Daboll isn’t getting lost in the what could be scenarios.

“I’m happy we won but it’s one game,” Daboll said during a virtual press conference on Monday. “If it was the other way around, it’s one game. We got to get ready to go on to the next week. It’s the first week of the regular season so we got a long way to go. You can watch the tape, there’s a lot of corrections that need to be made in this early part of the season and we got to be on top of it. That’s the mindset that we need to make.”

The first-year head coach was busy trying to keep track of the congratulatory texts and phone calls on Sunday, but he hasn’t let that lead to losing focus on the bigger picture. And the good vibes around the Giants can just as easily turn sour with a loss in the home opener on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

Giants fans have rightfully enjoyed the win over the two-time AFC South champion Titans and their first season-opening victory since 2016 when Ben McAdoo was coaching the team. Coincidentally, McAdoo will be on the opposing sideline as an offensive coordinator when the Giants face the Panthers.

But for Daboll, the celebration was a quick one.

“It was good to share that moment with the players. And then you’re on a flight home. You’re watching the tape,” the Giants head coach said. “What we’ve been doing up to this point is meeting as a staff for a few hours. I meet with (General Manager) Joe (Schoen). I meet with the players, and I do this media session and then really get going on Carolina here. So again, pleased with the result.

“But proud of what they’ve done up to this point relative to getting ready for that game. And now turning the page as quick as we can to go against Carolina.”
