According to series creator Doug Ellin, who conducted interviews prior to the release of the film on June 3, he was in touch with Manning about having the Giants quarterback appear in a cameo in the movie. In fact, he said Manning had reached out to him about a spot. But, according to Ellin, Manning backed out without ever telling Ellin. He just disappeared and stopped returning calls. Ellin, a Long Islander and Giants fan, had to turn to Tom Brady for the cameo. Manning spoke on the matter for the first time on Monday, although he didn't exactly give his side of the story. "I don't want to give it any more press," he said after the Giants' practice. "It's not a big deal." Neither has the movie been. According to industry publications, the film has grossed a disappointing $17.8 million in its extended opening weekend. It finished in fourth place at this weekend's box office. Apparently there are a lot of folks who think like Manning. When asked if he had gone to check out the flick, the two-time Super Bowl MVP said with a smirk: "No, I don't think I'll see it."
