New New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen was still tinkering with the roster he was opening training camp with on Tuesday as the Giants made two signings and waived another player.

New York added veteran safety Andrew Adams and planned to sign veteran defensive lineman Nick Williams, while waiving rookie free agent defensive lineman Jabari Ellis. The moves came after the Giants held a tryout at their complex in East Rutherford and just hours before veterans were set to report for the start of camp.

Wide receiver Marcus Kemp and offensive tackle Kamaal Seymour were also added by the Giants.

Adams adds a much-needed veteran presence to the safety spot and comes with a championship pedigree. The 29-year-old won a super bowl in 2021 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs.

Adams has already been in Giants blue once before, playing the entirety of the 2017 season in New York. He has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles organization and Detroit Lions and finally returned to Tampa Bay last season.

He played in 14 games for the Bucs and started three of those contests.

Xavier McKinney and Julian Love are expected to be the Giants starting safeties, but the depth chart gets a bit thin after that. The Giants’ situation at the position gives Adams a good shot of making the team out of camp.

Schoen’s addition of Williams on Tuesday gives New York another option on their defensive line as well. Williams has been around the block quite a bit, having played for Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Miami and Detroit.

Williams made 30 starts over the last two seasons after signing a two-year, $5 million deal with Detroit in 2020. The decision to bring in the 32-year-old meant that Elias had to be cut.

The rookie had been signed in May and went undrafted in this year’s NFL Draft. Additionally, the Giants waived defensive back Henry Black, wide receiver Travis Toivonen and terminated the contract of defensive back Maurice Canady.

Both Adams and Williams were part of a tryout held at Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Tight end Eric Ebron and offensive tackle Kendall Lamm were among the players that also participated, according to the Post.
