One of Baltimore's most celebrated athletes has a message for the rioters in his city: Go home and stay home.

In a video posted to his Facebook page, former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis delivers a passionate plea to the looters who lit fires and clashed with cops in downtown Baltimore on Monday night.

Some of the participants in the chaos who were interviewed by news crews said the destruction was a response to police tactics in the city and the recent death of Freddie Gray, a black man who suffered an unexplained spinal injury while in police custody.

"We know there's a deeper issue, we know what the jungle looks like. But this isn't it," Lewis shouts at the camera. "There's enough of us in the streets trying to change what's going on.

"Baltimore, get off the streets! Kids: Go home, stay home! You don't have no right to do what you're doing to this city."

The video was posted Tuesday morning, and as of noon, it had more than 70,000 likes, 126,000 shares and 1.8 million views.
