Make Music New York is organizing thousands of free events and workshops in all five boroughs for Make Music Day, a nationwide celebration. It will take advantage of the extended daylight today, with programs running from sun up to 10 p.m. The 9/11 Memorial Plaza will host four grand pianos at the four corners of the site for a performance of Bach’s “Well-Tempered Clavier” by a rotation of professionals and students. Or, take a complimentary guitar lesson in Union Square before hearing hundreds of the string instruments perform a variety of “peace songs.” Make Music Day is celebrated in over 60 other U.S. cities, including Boston, Los Angeles and Chicago. The organization’s app, Make Music Day, maps out where all of the free events will be located.
