Officials from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JetBlue are advising travelers to Kennedy Airport to allow extra time as the airline continues construction that will affect traffic flow to and from Terminal 5.

Port Authority officials sent out an alert and tweet Sunday informing passengers and commuters that traffic detours will begin Monday, adding that travelers should “allow extra time when picking-up or dropping-off or to utilize AirTrain.”

Port Authority officials also sent an alert and tweeted that: the “taxi pickup area at JFK Terminal 5 has been relocated due to roadway construction. Follow signs to new taxi area & allow additional travel time.”

JetBlue officials said the construction project will renovate the lobby of the terminal.

“As the traffic volume in our lobby has grown since T5’s original design, we have closed the exit point near [the Transportation Security Administration] to give us more space to serve customers,” said a spokeswoman in a statement. “Use of that exit point has been relatively low and, after a careful evaluation, we concluded that reallocating that space for departures would ultimately benefit more of our customers.”
