MTA commuters share their grievances on Twitter

“Summer of hell” was initially coined for LIRR, Amtrak and NJ Transit commuters during Penn Station’s emergency repair work, but MTA riders are feeling the heat, too.

A track fire near 145th Street in Harlem Monday morning snarled commutes for New Yorkers, leaving them to tackle overcrowded stations and extensive delays. The A, B, C and D trains lines were impacted.

Commuters expressed their frustration with the MTA by tweeting photos, which showed platforms stuffed to the brim, with #summerofhell. The hashtag #wethecommuters also took off Monday after WNYC encouraged New Yorkers to tweet their MTA grievances, which the radio station plans to present to the transit authority during its July 26 board meeting.

We’ve rounded up most shocking, funny and unfortunately relatable tweets from recent commutes.
