New Yorkers should plan to get their outdoor activities out of the way shortly after noon Saturday, when the National Weather Service said rain should start falling in the city.
It’s not long after that the rain will transition to a mix of rain and snow, the weather service said. Little accumulation is expected for NYC, however, with less than an inch of snow forecast. While snow in early April is unusual, it’s not unprecedented, said Tim Morrin, a meteorologist at the weather service’s Upton office. There were major snowstorms in the first weeks of April in 1996 and 1982.
Temperatures should remain in the low 40s throughout Saturday. The average normal high for April 9 is in the upper 50s, the weather service said. On Sunday, expect a high in the upper 40s.
