Wowfulls opening first brick-and-mortar shop in NYC’s Lower East Side

These sweet treats have found a permanent home in New York City.

Wowfulls, serving up Hong Kong-style egg waffles (gai dàn jai) since 2015, is opening its first brick-and-mortar shop Friday on the Lower East Side.

Fans of the Instagram-famous desserts have come to love the waffle treats from its food truck at Smorgasburg and appearances at festivals including Dessert Goals, Governors Ball and The Meadows.

Customers can fill their original, matcha or chocolate Wowfulls to the brim with a variety of ice cream flavors and plenty of toppings including fruit, Oreo crumbles and more.

Though you can go crazy with the toppings at Wowfulls, it’s the specialty egg waffles that deserve the spotlight, according to the shop’s co-owner David Chan.

“Our main focus is on the waffles,” Chan said. The three co-owners and chefs of the eatery frequently experiment with new recipes and flavors to get their waffles as “close to Hong Kong” as possible, he added.

Wowfulls is offering deals on its desserts from March 31 to April 1. The first 50 customers on Friday will receive $1 waffles, with a $5 waffle special taking place for the rest of the weekend. Wowfulls typically go for $8.

The first 200 customers will be taking home free swag, including complimentary pins and T-shirts.

Wowfulls is at 309 E. Houston St. For more information, visit wowfulls.com.
