The Staten Island FerryHawks, a popular minor-league baseball team, will be honoring the NYPD during a special ballgame on Friday, with a portion of the proceeds from the game benefiting the loved ones of fallen officers.

The June 2nd game will see the FerryHawks go toe-to-toe with Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park. The event is said to be a thank you to New York’s Finest by celebrating its members through what has been dubbed NYPD night.

“We are very fortunate that there are men and women in service here on Staten Island who wake up to protect us and let us go to work without worrying about too much,” President of the FerryHawks Eric Shuffler said. “This Friday night we have chosen a game to honor them.”

While Shuffler promises that baseball fans will enjoy a thrilling evening of sports, $5 from the ticket price will be donated to the PBA Widows and Children’s Fund, an organization that provides aid to the families of fallen NYPD officers. The event will also include family activities centered around members of the force.

The first pitch will be thrown by the Commanding Officer of the 120th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Steve Spataro, while those in uniform will also perform the National Anthem, as well as “God Bless America” and “Take me out to the Ballgame.” Additionally, the cops will also participate in games on the field between innings.

“I would like to thank the FerryHawks for all their support for us, especially this great cause of the Widows and Children’s Fund. But I also want to thank them for the help they’re doing engaging in the community and really being an anchor,” Deputy Inspector Spataro said.

Tickets retail at $20 and will include access to the game on June 2nd (attendees will also receive a free drink of either a 16oz draught beer or 22oz soda). Tickets can be purchased here: https://fevogm.com/event/Nypdnight

“I encourage all of New York City to come out and support the police and support the FerryHawks,” Shuffler said.
