Q: Does the MTA have a set time when they transition from heat to air conditioning in train cars? Anne A., Crestwood, NY
A: Subway cars do not transition from air conditioning to heating based on seasonality. Instead, the NYCT HVAC system operates automatically, relying on data from temperature sensors that trigger the system to activate heating or cooling, depending on preset temperature limits.

Q: When will the construction and repair work at the Woodhaven Blvd Station on the (J)(Z) line be completed? Xiomara V., Woodhaven
A: Construction is running on schedule with an estimated completion by fall of this year. The project encompasses a host of station upgrades, most noticeably the construction of two new elevators and other ADA improvements that will allow customers who require a stair-free path to safely access Woodhaven Blvd, a station that opened more than 100 years ago in 1917.
We’re also replacing and widening concrete platforms, constructing two new street-to-platform canopied staircases, enlarging mezzanine balconies, and installing new in-station artwork. This is one of 38 stations currently under construction for ADA upgrades.

Q: If the Knicks or Rangers make it to the finals in their respective leagues, would the MTA consider outfitting trains in team colors to support these two legacy sports teams? Harry W., Dix Hills
A: Train wraps are primarily advertising, and we would gladly do it in honor of the Rangers and Knicks with support from community partners or the teams themselves. There’s no better way to remind fans that the best way to get to any home playoff game at the Garden is to take transit!

Q: I plan to use mass transit during Memorial Day weekend at the end of this month. Where can I find out about any planned service changes to subways or buses? Mack S., Howard Beach
A: Your best resource for weekend service information is the MTA Weekender newsletter, which goes out every Friday. You can sign up for the mailing list on our website. Real time service updates and alternatives are also available on the MTA app and at new.mta.info.
During Memorial Day Weekend, the subway will run a regular weekend schedule on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, while buses will run on a Sunday schedule on Monday.
If you’re heading to the Rockaways, Rockaway Park Shuttle trains will be extended to Rockaway Blvd every weekend through Labor Day. That means you can transfer to the Shuttle from any A train to get to the beach more easily. The Q22, Q35, Q53 SBS, Q113 and Q114 buses also serve the neighborhood, as does the LIRR via the Far Rockaway station.
