There are currently nine sportsbooks that are currently available in New York: Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, PointsBet, BetRivers, WynnBET, Bally Bet, and Resorts World, with the latter two recently joining the party in a quiet fashion.

The New York sports bettors who also happen to navigate New Jersey can also check out AMNY’s best NJ Online Casino offerings. Better yet, those who navigate other legal online casino states can also get in on the fun with Online Casino Apps today.

Ranking the Best NY Sports Betting Apps

Now that NY sports betting apps are live, AMNY can appropriately rank the field.

How AMNY ranked each app is based on a myriad of factors, including but not limited to the following:

  • Mobile app user experience (UX)
  • Mobile app interface
  • Mobile app ease of use
  • Mobile app reliability
  • Deposit and withdrawal options and simplicity
  • Variety of states available
  • Variety of sports available
  • Variety and quality of promos available

DraftKings Sportsbook is one of the best in the business and has been for some time. It’s why, along with FanDuel Sportsbook, the mega-company that made its bones in daily fantasy sports is one of the first four to enter the NY sports betting market.

DraftKings Sportsbook is AMNY’s preferred sports betting app choice.

The daily fantasy sports company turned sports betting monster hopped on the online gambling legalization from the jump. DraftKings Sportsbook took immediate action following the historic overturning of the PASPA in 2018.

Prior to entering the online sports betting NY market, like others, DraftKings Sportsbook partnered with a brick-and-mortar location—the del Lago Resort & Casino in Waterloo, NY.

Interestingly, DraftKings attacks its mobile app in a flexible fashion. Those who use both DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino can remain within the same DraftKings mobile app to conduct wagers for both. Bettors can get in on the action with the newest DraftKings Sportsbook promo code.

In the end, DraftKings Sportsbook deserves No. 2 status for a number of factors, including its new-user $150 guaranteed bonus, that’s currently one of the best in the business.

Interestingly, William Hill was the largest retail sportsbook in America and is even recognized on a larger scale worldwide. But now, thanks to Caesars Entertainment’s acquisition of William Hill, the names have changed a bit.

If Caesar NY Sportsbook’s new-user promo of a $1,000 First Bet on Caesars isn’t enough of an incentive to get going, its mobile app will definitely be more than enough.

The mobile app’s design is nice and overall functionality worthy of mention, but at times, it’ll glitch or freeze (not totally distinct from other apps in the market).

All in all, Caesars NY Sportsbook is one of AMNY’s preferred sports betting app choices.

FanDuel Sportsbook NY is one of AMNY’s top sportsbook choices.

FanDuel quickly added to its sports empire by moving into the online sports betting industry in New Jersey following the overturn of the PASPA. Constantly compared to mega-giant DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel delivers the goods in a plethora of areas.

The company is already in New York as the official sportsbook of Tioga Downs in Nichols, NY, and it has now entered the state’s online sports betting market as of Jan. 8, 2022.

First and foremost, FanDuel Sportsbook’s app is easy to use. Its interface is clean and simplicity is a major highlight.

The company’s new-user Bet $5, Get $200 Bonus (Win or Lose) is also attractive, as is its ability to offer an incredible number of sports and betting options. The company’s Same-Game Parlay is always a popular option.

FanDuel’s app allows users the opportunity to use the Sportsbook and Casino in the same place while under the same account.

How could anybody go wrong with BetMGM’s app? Owned and operated by MGM Resorts and Casinos, the BetMGM app is already available in a plethora of states.

BetMGM’s app features an easy-to-use interface that’s not too intimidating for the new user. Speaking of new users, BetMGM is currently offering a $1,000 First-Bet Bonus for new users.

Interestingly, the standard BetMGM Promo Code in the majority of live states is a $1,500 First-Bet Bonus. Participating states include neighboring New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The good comes in the overall functionality of the app, including its bet slip. Some of the bad include BetMGM’s focus on parlays that could be a worse bet for the sports wagerer than some of the straight plays.

Licensed in eight states, Australian-based company PointsBet is on the come-up. Its unique PointsBetting feature will be used by many New Yorkers, now that PointsBet NY is currently live in the state.

Now owned by NBC Sports, PointsBet’s mobile app is wildly spreading to more states while gaining popularity. It’s been legal and active in New Jersey for quite some time. And now—as of Jan. 25, 2022—New Yorkers can get in on the PointsBet action.

In terms of app functionality, PointsBet delivers a sleek interface and high-end technology. Much like BetMGM, the company’s focus on parlays is something that could hurt the user more than help it.

BetRivers Sportsbook already has a New York presence as the sportsbook for Rivers Casino in Schenectady, but the online end of things can become a bit tricky, state by state.

Owned by Rush Street Interactive, BetRivers makes way for SugarHouse in New Jersey, which is where we pulled our ratings from above. All told, the company’s apps are independent in each state, and New York is no different in that regard.

New BetRivers NY users can take advantage of a $100 second-chance bet today.

WynnBET NY is a huge name that’s gaining serious momentum nationwide. Fortunately for the sportsbook currently on fire, it’s now live in the New York online sports betting market—quietly launching in early February.

Bally Bet NY is relatively new to the online sports wagering scene—May 2021 represents its first state entry (Colorado)—but it is coming on strong. Much like WynnBET, Bally Bet is ready to take the next step once New York opens its online sports wagering doors.

9. Resorts World NY Sportsbook

Resorts World Sportsbook remains one of the better mysteries in the US sports betting market. Hardly available nationwide, Resorts World Sportsbook quietly launched in New York in early March.

How To Use A Mobile NY Sports Betting App

Sports bettors who want to wager via a sports-betting app can painlessly do so in a few easy steps.

  1. Download the sports betting app from the App Store (Apple/iOS) or Google Play (Android). Previously, Android users were forced to download a link from the sportsbook’s website to get the app working on their devices. In early 2021, Google changed that, and operators can now make apps available on Google Play.
  2. Select “register” or “sign-up” and complete the registration process. This will usually consist of creating a username and password, and providing an email, social security number, etc. Sometimes, sports betting apps will ask for more verification steps.
  3. Deposit funds, usually done by locating and visiting your “account” section of the app.
  4. Place a bet after checking the fine print and taking advantage of new-user promos (if applicable).
  5. Withdraw winnings.

Deposit and Withdrawals at New York Sports Betting Apps

One of the most attractive aspects of online sports betting is the ease of use. Not only are mobile sportsbooks built for simplicity in regard to bet categories and odds, but it’s also incredibly seamless in the online cashier area.

The number of deposit and withdrawal methods available—across all of the legal sportsbooks—is downright amazing.

Deposit Methods

  • Online banking
  • ACH
  • Echeck
  • PayPal
  • Venmo
  • Cash at cage
  • Sportsbook-specific prepaid cards

Withdrawal Methods

NY Mobile Sports Betting History

November 2013: Voters approve a resolution calling for a gaming expansion. Four new commercial casinos are built in specific upstate areas. The law includes a provision that authorizes these facilities to accept sports wagers if the federal ban under PASPA is overturned—which kickstarts everything.

The bill does not authorize online sports betting—something that continues to lack in the state to this day.

May 2018: This is the most important date on the timeline—when PASPA is overturned. After New Jersey’s tremendous effort in paving the way to overturn PASPA, NY bureaucrats set up a working regulatory framework for legal online sports betting.

January 2019: The New York Gaming Commission releases rules for NY sports betting as authorized and constrained under the 2013 gaming expansion law.

July 2019: Upstate New York casinos accept the first wagers. Rivers Sportsbook in Schenectady, the first place in New York state where you can legally place a wager on a sporting event, opened on July 16.

April 2021: York lawmakers approve a $212 billion deal that legalizes mobile sports betting. The deal includes an online sports betting plan that closely resembles the former governor’s vision.

Super Bowl 2022 is referenced as the early benchmark for when NY online sports betting officially launches.

August 2021: New York Gaming Commission publishes a list of applicants that have applied for a sports betting license.

November 2021: Reports surface (multiple sources) that a total of nine sportsbooks will win New York online betting licenses. Later, the state commission announced those very same sportsbooks as those that would initially enter the market upon NY online sports betting’s live launch.

Shortly after the Post’s report, the Gaming Commission decided on the initial sportsbooks to enter the state once NY sports betting goes live: FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Bally Bet, Kambi, Caesars, Wynn Interactive, and PointsBet.

December 2021: Sen. Joseph Addabbo projects that NY online sports betting will go live in mid-January 2022, before Super Bowl 56, and more specifically, sometime during the second or third week of the month.

January 2022: The state announces that NY online sports betting will launch on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at 9 a.m. ET, and the four sportsbooks that have met regulatory requirements are FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook, and BetRivers.

On Jan. 17, 2022, BetMGM NY becomes the fifth mobile sports betting app to join the NY sports betting market.

PointsBet NY becomes the sixth live operator in the Empire State on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022.

New York online sports betting brought in a ridiculous $63,209,984 in its first month of action (January 2022), shattering records along the way.

February 2022: WynnBET NY will become the seventh sports betting app to launch in the Empire State, per XL Media’s Robert Linnehan. It will launch at some point prior to Super Bowl 56 (Feb. 13, 2022).

Bally Bet is a different story, as the company’s chairman announced the sports betting app won’t launch in New York until at least April 2022.

March 2022: Resorts World quietly launches on March 3, 2022, to become the eighth mobile sportsbook app to open for business in the Empire State.

Assemblyman Gary Pretlow introduced a bill amendment that would allow New York to increase the number of approved sportsbooks from nine to no fewer than 14 by 2023, and then no fewer than 16 than by 2024, in the hopes that it would effectively lower the current 51% tax rate.

NY Sports Betting Launch News

The four sportsbook apps that hit the NY sports betting market first, on Jan. 8, 2022, were FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars and BetRivers. BetMGM later joined the party on Jan. 17, 2022, while PointsBet followed suit on Jan. 25. WynnBET quietly started taking bets in New York on Feb. 3, 2022, but the sportsbook is currently without a New York welcome offer.

Not only are Empire State residents now in the legal online NY sports gambling market, but they also have the opportunity to get started with the very best mobile sportsbook apps the country has to offer—with four more operators soon to arrive.

The others that will ultimately join the party bring serious brand recognition: Bally Bet and Resorts World. On Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, New York announced which operators will be included in the initial launch:

  • DraftKings
  • Caesars
  • FanDuel
  • BetMGM
  • PointsBet
  • BetRivers
  • WynnBET
  • Bally Bet
  • Resorts World

In November, the New York Gaming Commission made it official when it unanimously approved the following operators: FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Bally Bet, Kambi, Caesars, Wynn Interactive and PointsBet as online sports betting providers.

The commission also approved FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Bally Bet, Kambi, Caesars, Wynn Interactive, PointsBet, Rush Street Interactive and Resorts World as online sports betting operators.

Interestingly, FOX Bet, Bet365, theScore Bet and Barstool, among others, will have to wait. The licenses for the approved sportsbooks will be for 10 years, and the tax rate will be 51%.

New York Pro Sports Teams

New York is a professional sports town loaded with action. Two NFL teams, two NBA teams, two MLB teams and three NHL teams unofficially call New York home, but the number of teams that actually have their headquarters within the state limits is much fewer.

Along with the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, New York Yankees, New York Mets, New York Rangers and New York Islanders call New York state home.

Fortunately, each of these teams can be wagered on as long as you live in or you’re within state limits of a legal online sports betting state (depending on particular state laws).

Tri-State Area Team Coverage:

New York State-Housed Teams

  • New York Knicks (NBA)
  • Brooklyn Nets (NBA)
  • New York Yankees (MLB)
  • New York Mets (MLB)
  • New York Rangers (NHL)
  • New York Islanders (NHL)
  • New York Liberty (WNBA)
  • Buffalo Bills (NFL)
  • Buffalo Sabres (NFL)
