A NYC political action group for the Jewish community launched a new voter’s guide just in time for early voting, which begins on Saturday for the June 24 Democratic primary election.
Solidarity PAC’s official 2025 New York City Voter Guide is a roadmap for voters who want to learn more about and cast their ballots for candidates whose efforts best support New York’s Jewish community, according to the organization.
The guide aims to help people make the most informed voting decisions. The organization is also available to help explain ranked-choice voting, a relatively new method of voting that has been used in NYC elections only since 2021.
In a nutshell, when it comes to ranked-choice voting, a ballot can be cast for more than one candidate in order of a voter’s preference.
Voters can rank up to five candidates as part of the process. Ballots are counted using, in part, a process of elimination to determine the winners.
Solidarity PAC’s candidate recommendations
But Solidarity PAC’s guide helps voters in other ways, too. For New Yorkers who have not been following the primary closely, the organization’s voter guide gives its recommendations in several key city elections, including the mayoral race.
“As we know all too well, few voters participate in primary elections because they do not feel informed enough about the candidates,” according to a statement from Solidarity PAC. “We have worked for many months to be able to provide information you need to make a confident decision about who to cast a ballot for, and who to avoid.”
The organization ranks Andrew Cuomo #1 for mayor. The former governor, who was forced to resign in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations that he has staunchly denied, is currently the frontrunner in the election.
He also received a glowing endorsement from former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday.
The organization made clear that New Yorkers should not rank Queens Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani, who is currently one of the top contenders citywide after Cuomo’s lead.
Mamdani came under attack after the first Democratic mayoral debate on June 4 by not directly answering a question about whether or not he believes in Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.
For NYC public advocate, Solidarity PAC’s pick is Queens Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar. It does not rank the other candidates in the race: current Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and retired insurance pro Marty Dolan.
Meanwhile, Mark Levine is the organization’s top choice for NYC comptroller over City Council Member Justin Brannan and city employee Ismael Malave Perez, with both ranked at numbers 2 and 3, respectively.
Solidarity PAC’s guide also shows their top picks for candidates in other city elections, too, including NYC Council and borough president races.
The guide includes other information to help voters cast their ballots, including poll site locations and instructions for requesting absentee ballots.
Voters can also check their registration status through the guide, too. More information is at nysolidaritypac.org.
