Meet Brother's Pizzeria, the Mets' favorite pizza place

This is some Amazin' pizza.

Brother's Pizzeria has been heralded as one of the best slices in Queens by pizza blogs for years, but the local favorite has another reputation — as the Mets' pie of record.

For years, the old-school pizza shop, located on Horace Harding Expressway, has been bringing the team pizza when they leave for away games.

Brother's owner Dennis Koines (pictured) got to personally know the team when he worked in the clubhouse as a Mets bat boy from 2001 to 2006.

He bought the pizzeria in 2010, after working there for 12 years, when the previous owner retired.

"Everything's all original," Koines, a Fresh Meadows native, said of Brother's, which first opened in 1963 -- a year before Shea Stadium debuted.

Koines usually brings the team between 15 and 20 pies on its "getaway day."

"They leave it to me to bring them whatever they want," Koines said. "They only have a certain amount of time to get dressed and get on the bus and get on the plane, and pizza is nice and quick."

A typical delivery might include pepperoni, vegetable and Sicilian pies. But the pizzeria's specialty is the classic, regular New York slice, which costs $2.50.

"We have been the same way for over 50 years," Koines said. "Some people get toppings, but we recommend just coming in and getting it plain."

The pizzeria's connection to the Mets is known in the neighborhood, Koines said. In previous interviews, in tweets and in the 2013 All-Star Game program (pictured), the team has shouted out Brother's as their favorite New York pizza. In a 2013 interview with NYCgo.com, Mets captain David Wright said of Brother's, "I love that place. They bring it into the stadium like once or twice a week and I crush that."

Brother's is just as loyal. Koines was even at the Oct. 21 game in Chicago against the Cubs when the Mets won the National League pennant and secured their spot in the World Series.

"We've treated them with love, they have no reason to go anywhere else," Koines said. "We are loyal to them, they're loyal to us."

People come for their veteran pizza guy, too

Beyond the Mets, Alec Baldwin is a notable fan of Brother's. It also has a following in Fresh Meadows.

"It's a lot of loyal customers that have been coming here forever," Koines said. "One of our pizza guys [Joe Mazzone, pictured] has been here for 40-plus years. There are people who come here just for him."

'There's plenty of confidence'

Brother's will be playing the World Series, which kicks off Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri. Koines, for one, is optimistic that the team will bring home the championship title for the first time in 29 years.

"There's plenty of confidence, that's for sure," said Koines, who runs the pizza shop with his wife, Megan (pictured with Koines and Mazzone). "It's most exciting when it's unexpected, and this one seems a little unexpected. It makes you enjoy it more. And Mets fans have been waiting a long time for it."

Koines hopes to make it to a game once the series comes to Citi Field starting Friday.

"It's a tough ticket," he said. "Maybe I'll just coincidentally deliver them pizzas that day."
