‘Saved by the Bell’ star Dustin Diamond opens up about jail stint

Dustin Diamond, who played Samuel “Screech” Powers in “Saved by the Bell,” says his jail time in Wisconsin for disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon was frightening but survivable.

“It’s pretty daunting, it’s pretty scary, going into that environment,” he told “Extra” co-host Mario Lopez, his former castmate on the 1989-1992 NBC comedy. “I found that as long as you follow the rules and stay with the system, it works. You can get in and out unscathed.”

Diamond, 39, was convicted in June 2015 following a barroom brawl the previous Christmas Day. He began serving a four-month sentence this past January, after an unsuccessful appeal, and was released April 11 with time off for good behavior.
