Around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday Aug. 5, two window washers died after a self-propelled cherry picker tipped over at the World Financial Center at the corner of West and Vesey Sts., according to police.
Cousins Robert Fabrizio, 35, and Darin Fabrizio, 37, fell about 40 feet and were pronounced dead at New York Downtown Hospital shortly after.
Police and Tony Sclafani, spokesperson for the New York Buildings Department, said they are still investigating the reason the cherry picker fell over, though the New York Daily News say investigators believe a dip in the pavement caused the accident.
The two men have been reported as employees at Total Building Services, a cleaning company hired by Shepard Industries to clean windows at the World Financial Center. However, an employee at Total Building Services said the company is not giving out any information, including confirmation of the two cousins’ employment status within the company until a later date.
A woman who picked up the phone at Darin’s Milford home declined to speak until a later date.
Robert lives in Las Vegas and Darin lives in Milford, Penn.
