9/11 Health Conference

The Mount Sinai School of Medicine held a health conference at the United Federation of Teachers headquarters (at 52 Broadway) last Saturday for 9/11 responders and their families.

Hundreds of rescue and recovery workers showed up to the event and were informed about 9/11-related physical and mental health problems and about the benefits available to them under the James Zadroga Act.

The conference was part of a World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program created in 2002 to manage medical data compiled by Mount Sinai and the NYC Fire Department.

“First responders and volunteers came from around the country,” said 9/11 health advocate Catherine McVay Hughes, chairperson of the Community Board 1 W.T.C. Redevelopment Committee.
