Alliance vet takes temporary reins

The Alliance for Downtown New York has just appointed William Bernstein, its senior vice president, as acting president while it searches for a new president.

The Alliance’s previous president, Eric Deutsch, who announced his resignation in May, left the Alliance June 1.

Bernstein says he is looking forward to his new post, and plans to “keep the ship up and running” in the next few weeks, while making sure the Alliance is ready for its next president. He says the organization will continue making Maiden Lane as attractive as possible to potential shoppers while construction continues, and will work with the city and retailers to find solutions to scaffolding issues. Bernstein has been with the Alliance since 1997.

The Downtown Alliance manages the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Business Improvement District. It is the city’s largest BID. Harris Rand Lusk is conducting the search for Deutsch’s successor.
