Birch Coffee coming to FiDi

Four years after opening, the owner of the luxury tower housing Spruce Street School has just inked a deal to bring a retail shop to the building: Birch Coffee.

The high-end coffee shop already in the West Village and three other Manhattan locations, hopes to open in “New York By Gehry” by the end of the year.

“We’re beyond excited to be opening a Birch Coffee outpost in Frank Gehry’s stunning tower and to be part of the Financial District’s extraordinary transformation to a live, work, shop, 24/7 neighborhood” Jeremy Lyman, who opened his first Birch with cofounder Paul Schlader in 2009, said in a prepared statement.

The entrance to the 906-foot store will be on Beekman St. between Nassau and Gold Sts.

Forest City Ratner, the building’s owner, had not leased the space in the building, which opened in 2011. Scott Walsh, the firm’s vice president, called the cafe a ”perfect fit….Our residents are going to love having this amenity so close to home,” he said in a press release.

Birch.also located in the Flatiron District, the Upper West and East Sides, gets high marks from Yelp reviewers, with many praising its ambiance and coffees including cold brew iced coffee, a slower more expensive way to prepare the drink. Some knock their prices. The shop also serves sandwiches and other foods.
