Determination in ‘Bloombergville’

Downtown Express photos by Aline Reynolds

Union workers, students and others have been camped out at various Lower Manhattan locations, protesting Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed city budget cuts of what they consider to be “vital” city services.
The protestors have named their campaign “Bloombergville.”  They have been sleeping on the streets and receiving food deliveries from various unions. They cite their First Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution, which allows them to peacefully assemble. Despite N.Y.P.D. arrests and orders to dissipate, the group has not left and says it is determined to continue rallying until the budget is “defeated.” For updates on the occupation, visit www.bloombergvillenow.org.
