Five people were arrested after pro-Palestine protesters chained themselves to the United Nation’s Permanent Mission of Egypt building in Midtown.
At around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, police responded to the location, 304 E 44th St., to find dozens of protesters from PAL-Awda NY/NJ rallying against Egypt’s move to block aid from reaching the people of Gaza.

Protesters were seen chained to the building while others marched outside of the Mission building, chanting, clanging pots and holding signs in support of the Gazan people.
“Over 6,000 trucks filled with aid have been waiting to enter Gaza, only miles away from the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who may die of malnutrition and famine if this aid is not allowed to enter. Egypt must open up the Rafah Crossing immediately, fulfilling its bare minimum responsibility in the face of this barbarous stage of genocide,” the organization wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Members of the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group used saws to cut the chains of the protesters and took five people into custody.
Earlier this week, Within Our Lifetime held a similar protest at the location, calling on Egypt to allow aid through to Gaza.
