On Saturday, the 14-and-under Lower East Side Gauchos defeated the East Harlem Warriors 17-3 in Harlem RBI League play.
Michael Moreno (East Side Community School) had 5 RBI and pitched two scoreless innings for the Gauchos. Catcher Danny Nunez (La Salle Academy) had a triple and gunned down two would-be base stealers. Once again, Chris “Red” Rivera had two hits. Moreno, Nunez and Rivera are all hitting over .600 in the young season. The Gauchos are now 3-0.
Earlier in the day, the 16-and-under Gauchos, coached by Ron Fulco, opened their season with a doubleheader sweep of the Bangers. Emory Cohen homered into the East River for the Gauchos in the second game.
