John Repetti, born and bred in the Village and owner of John J. Repetti Plumbing & Heating at 21 Downing St., died in St. Vincent’s hospital on Jan. 28, the day before his 85th birthday. He had been ill for a year and suffered from diabetes and a heart condition, according to his cousin George Repetti.
He was born and raised in the Village, the son of Laura Casella Repetti and John J. Repetti Sr. His grandparents, Catarina Aste Repetti and Natale Repetti, emigrated from Genoa around 1870.
John Repetti’s father established the plumbing and heating business on Downing St. in 1929 and John became active in the company after serving as a Navy pilot in the Pacific at the end of World War II.
In addition to his cousin, his lifelong companion, Hester Turner, also survives. A funeral Mass was held Sat. July 1 at Our Lady of Pompei, the church where he was baptized. Perazzo Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., was in charge of arrangements.
