Con Edison crews drilled holes and checked for gas leaks by the La MaMa theater on E. Fourth St. Tuesday morning after the smell of gas was reported emanating from a nearby manhole. Firefighters evacuated 15 people from the theater and closed the street to pedestrian and vehicle traffic for more than an hour. At left, a Con Ed worker took a reading in one of the holes while another worker drilled another hole.
