The two Battery Park City middle schools’ softball teams squared off in the first round of the playoffs earlier this month with the I.S. 289 Cougars besting the I.S. 276 Dragons, 19- 9.
The Cougars played solid defense and hit the ball well in the June 4th game. Both girls teams are coached by Manhattan Youth.
Unfortunately, the Cougars barely lost their next game to I.S. 223, 7- 6, so they just missed advancing to the semi-finals of the NYC Girls Softball League Championship, but they had a winning season nonetheless.
