Robber boy
A 13-year-old boy was arrested in the Village around 12:15 a.m. Sat., July 20, and was charged as a juvenile offender with holding up two couples at knifepoint, according to the office of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau.
The first victims were a man and a woman held up at 11:25 p.m. at Greenwich and Charles Sts., where the man surrendered $40 to the pint-sized robber. A block away at Perry St. he attempted to hold up another couple. The man told him to go away and then phoned 911. Police apprehended the boy on West St.
Girls gone wild
Police arrested two 18-year-old female residents of the Lillian Wald Houses and charged them with beating and robbing a 15-year-old girl on E. Fourth St. near Avenue B at 1 a.m. Sun., July 13. Police arrested Nicole Diaz, of 860 E. Sixth St., and Tashika Velez, of 60 Avenue D, and charged them with second-degree robbery for punching and kicking the victim and grabbing her cell phone. The two suspects were freed pending an Oct. 6 court date, according to a spokesperson for the district attorney.
Mugged near St. Mark’s
Police arrested Johnny Ludolph, 18, and charged him with robbery for mugging a man on E. 10th St. at Second Ave. across from St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery at 2:30 a.m. Sun., July 13. The suspect is charged with punching the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground and stealing his backpack containing clothing and an iPod. Ludolph was arrested on Second Ave. and charged with second-degree robbery.
Bartender rage
Police arrested a woman bartender at 2 by 4, a dive bar at 68 Second Ave. at E. Fourth St., at 3:45 a.m. Thurs., July 17, and charged her with assault for throwing a glass at a customer. The glass injured the customer’s forearm. The suspect, Star Wayne, 35, of 102 E. 116th St., was charged with third-degree assault and possession of a weapon — the glass. She was also charged with a graffiti offense for marking the Ninth Precinct lockup where she was being held.
Spike in burglaries
Burglary in the Sixth Precinct, which covers the Village, has increased sharply this year compared to last year, according to crime statistic reports filed at Police Headquarters. During the week of July 7-13 there were nine burglaries compared to four during the same period last year, and for the 28 days ending July 13 there were 32 burglaries compared to 18 during the same period last year, an increase of 77.7 percent. During the year ending July 13 there were 130 burglaries compared to 103 for the same period last year.
Crime in the seven major felony categories during the week of July 7-13 increased slightly compared to the same period last year; there were three robberies during the week this year compared to two last year.
Nevertheless, Sixth Precinct felony crime over all for the 28-day period this year declined 16.45 percent. For the six months through July 13, crime over all in the precinct declined 4.7 percent.
FedEx theft
A FedEx shuttle driver who picks up at Newark Airport and delivers to the FedEx depot at 130 Leroy St., was arrested July 11 and charged with stealing electronic items valued at a total of $5,398 during a four-month period. The driver, Jorge Diaz, 22, of 350 W. 48th St., told investigators that he sold the items, mostly iPods and digital cameras, because he “desperately needed the money.” He was paroled pending a Nov. 12 court appearance.
