In the Seniors division, the Greenwich Village Little League Blues kept their unblemished division record intact at 6 and 0 after defeating the previously unbeaten Cardinals from Peter Stuyvesant Little League twice this past weekend by scores of 14-4 and 9-3. While the sweep was a solid all-around team effort, strong outings by starters Dan Dinella and Marvin Ramirez were critical to the Blues’ success. Dinella pitched a complete game on Saturday at Randall’s Island, striking out 10 Cardinals. Jake Tobin led the offense Saturday by going 3 for 4 with two triples. Ramirez was even more spectacular on Sunday at Central Park, striking out 15 Cards in seven innings of work. He got solid defensive support, especially from Max Marinoff who twice robbed batters of base hits in critical situations. The Blues’ Austin Russell had a good weekend at the plate going a combined 3 for 6.
The G.V. Reds did not play this weekend and also remain undefeated. While both managers are wary of the dangers of looking past next weekend’s opponents, it’s possible that when the Reds meet the Blues in two weeks that they will be vying for sole possession of first place in the Seniors League.
