From the heavily costumed to kids of gay and lesbian moms and dads, thousands participated in the 36th Annual Gay Pride March on Sunday afternoon. The procession started in Midtown on Fifth Ave. and traveled down to Greenwich Village, where it ended at Christopher St. The struggle for marriage equality was a theme on the minds of many at this year’s march. As usual, politicians were out in force. Senators Chuck Schumer, posing with his arm around the shoulder of a marcher, and Hillary Clinton were among the prideful throng. City Councilmember Margarita Lopez, a.k.a. MLo, was thrilled to have her mother, Julia, 80, who flew in from Puerto Rico, marching beside her and her partner, Francisca Rivera, for the first time ever. Like Lopez, also an openly gay candidate for Manhattan borough president, Brian Ellner joined in walking the route, accompanied by Reverend Al Sharpton and former Public Advocate Mark Green, who is running for state attorney general.
