I’m following up on my community’s four month old request for a bus stop for the westbound M21 at the subway station entrance on Houston Street at Broadway. I hope the MTA may be influenced by your support to act on this request and replace the “No Standing Anytime” sign on the northeast corner of Houston at Broadway with a Bus Stop for the westbound M21. As noted previously, the bus continues to bypass two entrances to the Broadway/Lafayette St subway station as it travels from its stop at Mott St. to its next stop, which is still at Greene St. In that stretch, the bus crosses Mulberry St, Crosby St., Lafayette St, Broadway and Mercer St. From there on, there are bus stops every two blocks all the way to Sixth Ave. Traffic would not be affected adversely by the requested Bus Stop, because the only turns possible at that intersection are left turns onto Broadway. There’s also a very convenient indent at the curb for a Bus Stop right at the subway entrance near the new Adidas building. At present, that is where the above-mentioned “No Standing” sign is posted. Surely, anyone riding past that site will reach the obvious conclusion that this request for a Bus Stop is fully justified. Hopefully, your support may expedite action.

Action about to be granted! When I wrote about your request about a month ago (for those who may’ve not seen that article), I stated that NYC Transit was mulling your suggestion over to ensure it didn’t conflict with another project to make the Broadway-Lafayette subway stop ADA compliant (handicap accessible). Well after speaking with Transit Sam, they mulled it over and great news; no conflict. So what’s next you might ask? Just this past Friday, NYC Transit submitted the request for a bus stop at that location to NYC Department of Transportation (which I’m optimistic they’ll approve. I’ve already expressed my support to them for the bus stop). If all goes well accordingly, you’ll be looking at a spanking new bus stop and a more convenient connection to the B, D, F, M and downtown 6 trains at the Broadway and Houston location within the next 45 to 60 days.

Transit Sam has solved Manhattan’s infinite loop. Remember two weeks ago, I wrote about the closure of Park Pl. which resulted in cars making a turn onto Murray St. from West St. ending up right back on West St. Now, cars have been able to access Park Place, the site of Park 51. Detour signs have been put up for eastbound traffic, since Chambers St. from West St. to West Broadway was converted to one-way westbound several weeks ago.
