The McBurney YMCA, at 125 W. 14th St., held a weeklong clothing drive for individuals who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Soon after the sign went up notifying members of the project, donations began to pour in. McBurney members as well as residents of the community generously donated new and gently used clothing for families in Texas.
The clothing was sorted, packaged, assembled onto palettes and loaded into a moving truck. The boxes, over 80 in all, were then delivered to the Greater Lewisville Family YMCA in Flower Mound, Tex. The items were to be distributed to over 400 families currently living in shelters around the state.
DYMO Corporation, based in Stamford, Conn., agreed to cover shipping costs.
