Since the longest February there could be is coming to a close with that extra 29th day on Saturday, what’s say we make the most of the leap day this weekend.

Here’s ten ideas how to leap into the weekend that only comes once every few years:

Friday

Tour a famous fabric flower factory in Manhattan

Take an afternoon tour of this historic facility that makes floral designs for a-listers and plenty of film and TV productions as well 242 West 36th Street. Starts at 12:30 p.m. $25, 212-244-2090.

Hip Hop & Caribbean Party at the Bronx Brewery

The Bronx is brewing! Head to Port Morris at 9 p.m. for this boogie down, 3 DJ party. Tickets start at $10, 856 E 136th St, Bronx. 718-402-1000. 

My Chemical Romance reunion party with cover band at Sound of Brazil

Perhaps the most iconic rock band of a generation, listen to all the MCR greats at 204 Varick Street for free if you RSVP for this 11 p.m. show, 212-243-4940.

Saturday

Lunar New Year Lion Dance at Pier 17

The rooftop of this South Street Seaport Pier will hold a traditional Lion Dance performance, set against the unique backdrop of the New York City skyline, the East River and Brooklyn Bridge with live percussion at 2:00 p.m., ice rink also open all day. Performance free, 89 South St, 212-732-8257.

Spotify’s Phenomenal Black Music Pop Up

Spotify is hosting a two day immersive exhibit-style pop-up  at 109 Wooster Street for Phenomenal Black Music in NYC celebrating 32 phenomenal songs which span generations and genders from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Global Mashup at Flushing Town Hall

This diverse concert series returns to 137-35 Northern Blvd and will be going strong with Global Mashup events through May. Ticket prices vary. Dance lessons at 7:15 p.m., show at 8 p.m. 718-463-7700 x222.

Nutella Grand Central Station Pop Up

 Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall will be home to the “Nutella Syrup Swap,” which rewards those that turn in a sealed bottle of syrup with free Nutella topped pancakes and a bottle of the hazelnut filling as well, while supplies last. 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. Details here.

Leap Day Party at OddFellows Ice Cream in DUMBO

Born on February 29th? Head to any Milk Bar location in the city or the nation to claim your free mini birthday cake. Even if it’s not your birthday, pickup up some brand new chocolate birthday soft serve for $2.29 (get it!). Must show ID for the cake, while supplies last.

Dekalb Market Beer Crawl
