Cops are on the hunt for the suspect behind a stabbing at a Lower Manhattan subway station early on Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, the incident unfolded at the Broadway-Lafayette St station on the B/D/F/M lines at around 5:21 a.m. on Jan. 28.
Authorities said the victim, a 51-year-old man, became embroiled in a verbal dispute with the suspect, described as a man in his 30’s while on board a southbound train.
The clash turned physical and, after the train arrived at Broadway-Lafayette St. Cops say when the victim attempted to leave the subway, the perpetrator pulled out a knife and stabbed the 51-year-old in the back.
Following the attack, cops said, the assailant fled to parts unknown. He was last seen wearing all black clothing.
Officers from the 5th Precinct and NYPD Transit District 4 responded to the incident. EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for his injury and listed in stable condition.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.

The stabbing occurred amid a historic drop in subway crime. Overall crime decreased in the subway system by 4% in 2025, according to NYPD data provided to the MTA. Crime in the transit system, however, rose slightly in December.
