Have you ever felt but suppressed the urge to sing along at a Broadway show, just as one might at a pop concert? The hit Broadway musical “Six” (which is stylized as a concert starring six pop divas) has announced that it will hold a special sing-along performance on March 6 where audience members will be able to, and even encouraged to, sing along with the cast.

It is part of “Sixth of the Month,” a series of special events and activities for fans of the show.

I don’t know about you, but I am seriously tempted to attend and sing “Don’t Lose Ur Head” and “All You Wanna Do” out loud to my heart’s content along with the rest of the crowd.

The immersive dance club-meets-foreign politics musical “Here Lies Love,” which has been struggling at the box office since opening in July, is currently experimenting with after-hours programming and unorthodox ticket offers.

In a new deal aimed at repeat attendees, fans can purchase packs of four tickets that are redeemable within 48 hours of a future performance.

The show will also host post-show DJ sets/dance parties after select performances, including on Oct. 12, 19, 25, and 31.

Military vet docudrama to play Off-Broadway

“War Words,” a new docudrama based on interviews with U.S. military veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, will be presented Off-Broadway beginning on Veteran’s Day weekend in November at A.R.T/New York.

In a statement, playwright Michelle Kholos Brooks said that the play “aims to bridge the divide between those who serve in the military and the rest of us who say ‘thank you for your service’ without really understanding what the service and sacrifices truly are.”

U.S. Army General David H. Petraeus, who attended an early workshop presentation, has gone on to endorse the play.

Norwegian playwright Fosse wins Nobel

Have you ever heard of Jon Fosse (not to be confused with director-choreographer Bob Fosse)? A major Norwegian playwright who is little known in the U.S., Fosse won the Nobel Prize for Literature last week “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable,” according to an official statement.

Plays by Fosse that have been presented Off-Broadway include “A Summer Day” (2012 at the Cherry Lane Theatre) and “I Am the Wind” (2014 at 59E59). One expects that more of Fosse’s plays will receive New York productions soon in light of the award.

Tony Awards coming to Lincoln Center

Once again, the Tony Awards will not be held at Radio City Music Hall or even at a Broadway theater.

Unlike the 2023 Tony Awards, which were held at the United Palace in Washington Heights, the 2024 Tony Awards will be held at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, which is best known as the home of New York City Ballet and the former home of New York City Opera and for having acoustic problems. This will mark the first Tony Awards held at a venue at Lincoln Center.

One expects that many in the theater community are less than thrilled to have the Tony Awards held at a theater named after Koch, who devoted enormous sums of money to promoting conservative politics.
