Amy Schumer has responded to unkind social-media comments that targeted a recent photo of the comedian in a black, one-piece bathing suit in the surf in Hawaii.
“I meant to write ‘good morning trolls!’ ” Schumer, who turns 35 on June 1, wrote on Instagram, in a post accompanying the photo that appeared in publications online earlier this week.
“I hope you find some joy in your lives today in a human interaction and not just in writing unkind things to a stranger you’ve never met who triggers something in you that makes you feel powerless and alone. This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda,” she said, referring to the Agatha Trunchbull, the brawny headmistress of Crunchem Hall school in the Roald Dahl book “Matilda” and its adaptations. “Kisses!” she concluded.
A few hours later she posted a photo of herself and a dog, with the cryptic caption, “Whispering ‘always stay grateful best revenge is your paper.’ ”
Schumer was in Hawaii over the weekend with her boyfriend, Chicago-based furniture designer Ben Hanisch, according to People magazine.
A 1999 alumna of South Side High School in Rockville Centre, the “Inside Amy Schumer” star has spoken out often about conventional standards of beauty. She responded last month to a special edition of Glamour magazine that featured plus-size fashions and included her in a collection of reprinted interviews along with Melissa McCarthy, Lena Dunham and Christina Hendricks.
“I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size,” Schumer posted on Instagram then. “Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. Glamour put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me.”
Glamour responded that while it included her in the edition, the magazine “did not describe her as plus-size. We are sorry if we offended her in any way.”
