About
Larry's Bio:
I’ve lived all over Ulster County, buying and living and selling, and have always kept a place in New York City, where we also do business, and have swum in the real estate shark tank that is Manhattan with the big players. Working for the top companies in the past such as Corcoran and Douglas Elliman and doing country real estate for 16 years has given me a balanced perspective on both real estate and human nature.
I was born and raised in a small fishing village in Newfoundland, Canada, (Anyone who has seen the Broadway musical Come From Away will get the general idea of what it was like.) The bulk of my education, however, came from the years I backpacked through Europe as a college student with a dog-eared book called Europe On $5 A Day (hard to believe that title now). I love travel and have been everywhere from bicycling across Easter Island to exploring Moscow’s subway system to driving a motorcycle through the hills of Ching Mai in Thailand. For many years I was a freelance journalist and wrote for many publications, the New York Times foremost among them. I even wrote a book, a memoir called Heart’s Longing: Newfoundland, New York and the Distance Home.
It’s always about home and place.
Testimonials
Larry helped us find and purchase a weekend home in Woodstock, NY in 2011. He listened to our wants/needs and ultimately helped us find the perfect home for us. His knowledge of Woodstock and the area made the purchase process simple, particularly since we live in New York City most of the time. His assessment of each of the individual properties we looked at was tremendously helpful. He helped us negotiate an offer, despite the fact that he was on “vacation” and answered lots of questions that new-to-country-life people like us might have (who picks up the garbage? how do you get propane tanks for heat filled? etc.) I would use him again if we’re buying another house in the area, and would highly recommend him.
We had just returned from San Francisco after having successfully sold a property through Sotheby’s International. We were delighted and grateful beyond belief to have found Larry in Woodstock who very expeditiously helped us find the perfect home in the area into which we wanted our family to settle permanently. Our delight and gratitude was further enhanced after having had the unfortunate displeasure of dealing with some rather dubious, pushy realtor-types in ill-fitting suits and polyester smiles who were, in essence, wasting our time by showing us property after property that didn’t even remotely suit our needs or desires. It was clear that they were simply trying to ‘unload’ whatever properties they had ‘available’ with no regard for our specifications or requirements. They were overly-eager and quite useless. It was frustrating and insulting. And then we found Larry! Larry demonstrated not only his expertise knowledge of the area and of real estate, but showed us that he was very much in tune to what we were looking for and that he was 100% committed to showing us ‘homes’ that would best suit both our aesthetic and practical needs. Not to mention the fact that it was a genuine pleasure to spend so much time with him — as finding a home doesn’t happen overnight… — and his personality and sense of humor made the stressful task of finding a perfect home so much more fun. Larry knows his stuff, knows when to exercise reserve and when to step in with insight based on his experience as a realtor who’s been in the business for quite some time, and possesses an intuitive quality that makes you feel you’re in competent hands with ears that listen. Not to mention the patience of a saint for putting up with us… We went from introductions and handshakes to closing in 3 months. And we couldn’t be happier in our new home!
