A man was shot and seriously wounded near a Bronx apartment building in broad daylight on Tuesday morning, police reported.

The NYPD said the gunfire erupted just before 9:40 a.m. on March 3 in front of 2608 Creston Ave., across the street from St. James Park, in Fordham Heights.

Officers from the 52nd Precinct responded to the scene and found the victim, a 35-year-old man, shot once in the torso. EMS rushed him to Bronx Care Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition for injuries not considered life-threatening.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, police sources said.

Through March 1, the 52nd Precinct reported just one shooting year-to-date in 2026. Borough-wide, however, the Bronx has seen an uptick in gun violence, with 34 shootings year-to-date through Feb. 22, up 21.4% from the 28 reported at the same point in 2025.

No arrests have been made in Tuesday’s shooting, according to police. Cops are said to be looking for a suspect described as a man with a dark complexion, wearing a black jacket and gray sweatpants, and carrying a red backpack.

He was last seen fleeing the scene southbound on Creston Avenue after the shooting, according to sources.
