Police are investigating the death of a man who succumbed to his injuries four days after he was hit in the back during an altercation in Manhattan.
According to police, at 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 13, the NYPD responded to a 911 call regarding an aided man outside of an apartment building on West 159th Street near Broadway. Upon their arrival, officers found 58-year-old Gary Christmas, who was complaining of pain to his torso.
Sources familiar with the investigation stated that Christmas had been involved in a dispute with an unknown individual prior to the call, during which time he was struck in the back, which resulted in Christmas suffering a laceration to his spleen. At this time, the NYPD could not provide a description of the suspect.
EMS took Christmas to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 17. The incident was officially ruled a homicide in March.
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
