From the mailbag:

Dear Transit Sam,
I was riding up 8th Avenue in the bike lane and at West 4th Street I noticed a stop sign.  I’ve never seen a stop sign for bikes.  I took a picture; am I supposed to stop or is the sign just for cars crossing the bike lane.

Dear Sarah,
It looks to me that the stop sign was installed only to stop cars from turning in front of bikes with speed.  There’s no crosswalk so that’s the only reason I see for the sign.  If you look on the pavement you’ll see the word message “STOP” painted in the motor vehicle turn lane but not in the bike lane.  My advice is to proceed with caution and watch for turning cars.  Drivers you must stop and yield to bike riders going straight.
