CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING

From a coveted object at the sidewalk vendor stand, to a place of honor in your home, to an undignified role as curbside fodder for the garbage truck: this is the normal life cycle of an urban Christmas tree. But its contribution to society doesn’t have to end when the lights and ornaments get put back in the box for another year.

This year — well, at least until Tues., Jan. 12 — The Parks Dept. is turning West Chelsea’s Clement Clarke Moore Park into a drop-off point, from which your good old Tannenbaum can begin anew — as mulch for the park. In order to be recycled, trees need to be completely clean of decorations. Bring them to W. 22nd St. and 10th Ave., where you’ll see a designated area of the pool, at the rear of the park.

The West 400 Block Association, who tipped us off to this environmentally responsible initiative, also wants you to know about the city’s Zero Waste recycling programs. Check out https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/dsny/zerowaste/residents/food-scraps-and-yard-waste.shtml.

FREE DANCE WORKSHOPS FOR OLDER ADULTS

Mobility, social interaction, self-expression, and the chance to catch the show business bug — that’s what you’ll walk away with, at these upcoming Movement Speaks workshops. They’re led by Naomi Goldberg Haas, whose Dances For A Variable Population organization promotes strong and creative movement. This series of weekly workshops, designed for older adults, will culminate in a public performance at which the class will be joined by students in Hudson Guild’s afterschool program.
