Spitzer hits campaign trail
Disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer will attempt to jump back into the political arena Monday, as he launches his campaign for city comptroller. Spitzer, who resigned as governor in 2008 amid a prostitution scandal, will greet voters and collect petition signatures at Union Square beginning at noon.
Cooling centers open

Rally against hospital closures
Officials from a nurses union and a health care workers union, as well as some government officials, will hold a rally at 4 p.m. Monday outside Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Manhattan office calling for a moratorium on hospital closures in Brooklyn. The weekly protests are aimed at trying to save several financially troubled hospitals that are on the chopping block, including Long Island College Hospital and Interfaith Medical Center.
Harvey on mound for Mets
Mets ace pitcher Matt Harvey will look for his eighth win Monday night, as the Mets begin at three-game series at San Francisco. Harvey, who was named an All-Star earlier this week, enters the contest with a 7-2 record and 2.27 ERA. First pitch is at 10:15 p.m.
Musical Theater Fest opens
Actors and other celebrities will be on hand as the 10th annual New York Musical Theater Festival gets under way with an invitation-only opening gala at the Liberty Theater. The three-week festival has served as a launching pad for a handful of Broadway musicals, including “Next to Normal,” which won a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize.
