New York Giants offensive line coach Bobby Johnson went in front of reporters on Tuesday and expressed remorse for his involvement in Monday’s practice scuffle that resulted in punches being exchanged by Jon Feliciano and Cam Brown.

Johnson didn’t throw any punches, but did shove Brown in a surprising moment for a coach to put his hands on a player like that. The new offensive line coach said that he took full responsibility for his actions and he was “remorseful.”

“It can’t happen and it won’t happen again,” Johnson said. “I’ve apologized to the appropriate people, in particular Cam. I have to be better than that. It’s not what we’re looking for and like I said it’s a regrettable incident that can’t and won’t happen again.”

The incident occurred towards the end of Monday’s practice in East Rutherford as tensions flared up after a series of plays that seemed to draw the ire of the offensive and defensive personnel. Things started after Saquon Barkley lowered his shoulder and knocked down corner Aaron Robinson.

From there the intensity seemed to ratchet up.

“It’s something that happens in football. I’ll leave it at that and it won’t happen again, it can’t happen again, so that’s where I’ll just leave it at that,” Johnson said at the Giants facility on Tuesday.

After the dustup that brought both sidelines onto the field in order to break things up, head coach Brian Daboll had everyone huddle up in order to cool the situation down. Johnson said that Daboll also addressed the situation and “made it crystal clear” that it couldn’t happen again.

“It’s been addressed and we’re moving on from it,” he added.

The Giants are preparing for their preseason opener on Thursday against the New England Patriots. It will mark the first time anyone will get to see how Daboll will deploy his players in a game situation.
