Police in the Bronx arrested a 20-year-old man Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old man on Mother’s Day, according to the NYPD.

Officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of East Fordham Road and Webster Avenue in Fordham North shortly before 6 p.m. on May 11.

Police said they found a 31-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to the torso at the scene. EMS rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD identified the victim as Fode Bamba, of Morrisania in the Bronx, after notifying his family.

Police arrested Dontay Taylor, 20, at 10 a.m., May 12 following an investigation, cops said. He is charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to police sources, a verbal dispute between the victim and the assailant preceded the stabbing, though the details of the altercation remain unclear.

The fatal May 11 stabbing came during a particularly violent weekend in New York City.

The NYPD is now investigating five homicides, including a fatal shooting Friday night at a public housing complex in Lower Manhattan; a double shooting Saturday in the Bronx that left one man dead and a woman critically injured; a fatal stabbing Saturday in Queens; and the stabbing death of a 41-year-old man Sunday aboard an MTA bus in Brooklyn.

Through May 4, the 48th Precinct reported six homicides so far this year, four more than during the same period in 2024, according to the latest CompStat data. Citywide, there have been 24 murders in 2025, five less than the number tallied at the same point in 2024.
