[media-credit name=”Photos by Tequila Minsky ” align=”aligncenter” width=”600″][/media-credit]Musicians and music fans who want to make a difference for the “99 percent” occupied City Winery, at Varick and Vandam Sts., Tuesday evening for the release party for “Occupy This Album.” Tickets were $99, and the compilation album — with tracks by 100 different artists and groups — costs $9.99 online. All proceeds will go toward sustaining the Occupy Wall Street movement. Among Tuesday night’s performers were, clockwise from above left, writer/director Michael Moore, who sang “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” Greenwich Village’s own Richard Barone, Angels of Vice from Occupy Oakland — who belted out their defiant anthem “We Are the 99!” — and the legendary David Amram, who sang a jazzy tune about “Getting me a piece of that Occu Pie, oh yeah.” Other performers included the hard-rocking Ace Reporter, reggae band Taj Weekes, father-and-son duo Lester and Dylan Chambers (Lester of the ’60s hit “Time Has Come Today”), acoustic roots rockers Greg Smith and Broken English, “folkabilly” legend Nanci Griffith and the “Hell No” clappers and more. Other artists on the album include Crosby and Nash, Tom Morello, Ani DiFranco, Garland Jeffries, Yoko Ono, Toots and the Maytals, Deborah Harry, Third Eye Blind, Anti Flag, Chroma, DJ Logic, Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, James Murtry and Steve Earle. The project was the brainchild of musician Jay Samel, 34, who also plays on the disc.
